Business

Simon Sperryn, Chief Executive, London Chamber of Commerce has said he hopes the mayor will bring proper co-ordination and transparency to decision making in the capital.

London competes with New York, Tokyo, Frankfurt and other cities across the world to attract business.

The mayor will have to think and act strategically for the benefit of the whole of the capital, straddling the void between town hall and Whitehall, creating an environment in which business can flourish.

Transport is a key issue, but the business community also believes it is essential to involve them in the process of day-to-day decision making in transport and other issues.

There are also specific projects that business will be looking to the new Mayor to champion. The most significant is the proposed fifth terminal at Heathrow which will bring substantial benefits to the entire country.

The business community also wants an international convention centre for London.
