Social Security Secretary The Edinburgh Central MP took over at the Department of Social Security at the reshuffle before last when Harriet Harman's brief ministerial career came to a crashing end. Junior minister Frank Field had demanded the job, but was refused it by the prime minister and also left the DSS. Alistair Darling has continued cuts in benefits, recently causing a major fight by campaigners to save some disability payments. Like the chancellor, he insists everyone who can work should do so. |
