Education Secretary The education secretary is one of the most recognisable figures in the House of Commons because of his guide dog who accompanies him even when he speaks at the despatch box. A graduate of Shrewsbury Technical College, Sheffield Richmond College of Further Education, Sheffield University and Huddersfield College of Education, Mr Blunkett has held education briefs in and out of government since 1994. Despite teachers' opposition to some of his reforms, in particular performance-related pay, and the row over the chief inspector of schools, few had tipped the education secretary to be moved in the reshuffle. |
