Election Battlegrounds

 THE NORTH
The troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab - India's breadbasket, the desert state of Rajasthan, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh form this strategically important region which includes the country’s capital, Delhi. Security will be tight in Kashmir and Punjab, both of which have a history of separatist violence. The BJP and Congress will go head to head in Rajasthan, Himachal and Delhi. In Punjab, the Sikh party, the Akali Dal, will hope to repeat its strong showing in the last elections.
