Charles: Prince with passion

On the beach in Perth with model Jane Priest. From 1969 to 1976 the Prince of Wales undertook rigorous military training. He earned the title of “Action man” as, in a series of military drills, he threw himself out of planes, escaped from submarines, trained as a frogman and a commando and learned to fly a jet and drive a tank.

As he neared his 30th birthday, the Prince became known as somewhat of a playboy. As one of the world’s most eligible bachelors, he was photographed playing polo and jumping out of aeroplanes and was romantically linked to some of the world’s most glamorous women.

Although there was much discussion at the time about finding the Prince a “real job” he was involved in charity work, forming his Prince’s Trust in 1976. Nearing the end of his 20s he said 30 was the age “a chap like me” should get married. From that birthday forward he concentrated his efforts on finding a wife.
