USED IN: UK Parliament

HOW IT WORKS: Straight fight in consituencies - the candidate with the most votes wins.

PROS: Strong link between MP and constituency. Usually means one party gets a majority, which can mean strong government

CONS: No absolute link between the number of votes cast for a party and how many seats it gets in Parliament. Parties can rule on a minority of the country's votes. Can squeeze minor parties.
