Sir Winston Churchill, Britain's wartime Prime Minister, was honoured for his services to literature in 1953.The Nobel Prize for Literature went to Sir Winston "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values". He was a prolific writer. Among the most notable of his works are his war memoirs, including The Churchill War Papers, his biography, Churchill In His Own Voice and the epic series, A History of the English Speaking Peoples. |
