During the three years it took to make The Road to Riches, the production team visited 16 countries in four continents. They shot 413 rolls of videotape and travelled 205,000 miles to and from the various locations; that’s the equivalent of 8 times around the world! In the line of duty Presenter Peter Jay also had some scary moments. In programme five he went to the high voltage laboratories of the National Grid Company in Leatherhead, to experience the power of electricity first hand. Although he was perfectly safe encased in a special metallised suit, he was understandably nervous.
Everyone knows working with animals doesn’t always go according to plan. Peter needed a lot of patience while filming a sequence with some chimpanzees for programme one.
But it wasn’t all hard work. The team found time to relax in China when they all went to a disco. Even Peter made it up onto the dance floor.
