Netherlands

A number of Dutch fighter aircraft were deployed in the first wave of the Nato air operation. A Dutch F-16 downed a Serbian MiG-29 in one of the first dogfights of the conflict. Although official figures have not been released, it is believed that the Dutch have contributed 16 F-16 bombers, an F-60 transport plane, and a KC-10 tanker plane, based at Amendola in Italy.

Commenting on the operation, Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok said the assault "is the consequence of all the warnings we have given Milosevic". The Netherlands is a founder member of Nato and contributed troops to the peacekeeping force in Bosnia.
