The war years

During World War II the King and Queen were symbols of the nation's resistance. Elizabeth refused to leave London during the Blitz. She often made visits to parts of London which were targeted by the enemy such as the beleaguered East End, near Londonís docks. Buckingham Palace even took several hits during the height of the bombing, although luckily no-one was hurt.
