Coronation

In January 1936 King George V died. The succession passed to Albert's elder brother Edward. But Edward was forced to give up the throne to his younger brother when he decided to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. Quite unexpectedly Elizabeth's husband Albert became King and she consort to the monarch. They were crowned in May 1937. He was named King George VI.
