Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon
Elizabeth was the ninth of ten children

Early years

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born on 4 August 1900, during the last few months of the reign of Queen Victoria. She was the daughter of Scottish aristocrats who inherited the titles of Earl and Countess of Strathmore when Elizabeth was three. The ninth of ten children, she spent much of her childhood at the family’s English country home in Hertfordshire and in Scotland at Glamis Castle.
