Throughout World War II and the Korean War, Hope travelled more than a million miles entertaining US troops. At Christmas 1948 he began a tradition of Christmas shows for GI's when he and his troupe of performers entertained soldiers involved in the Berlin airlift. In later years he made it to Vietnam, Beirut and in 1990, at the age of 87 he entertained US troops stationed in Saudi Arabia who were serving in the Gulf War.
