Electricity is one of the key sectors which needs to be bug-free because so many other sectors depend upon it.

Independent assessments were carried out for the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets by PB Power. According to a report in October, the electricity industry is now ready for the millennium date change.

The four main processes assessed were generation, transmission, distribution and supply 90%.

Nuclear power was assessed 100% Blue.

In the coal industry, which helps provide electrical power, independent assessment found it to be 95% Blue and 5% Amber.

The Action 2000 traffic light codes:

Blue: The assessment has not identified any risks of material disruption to the infrastructure process.

Amber: The assessment indicates that there is some risk of material disruption to infrastructure processes, but that there is an agreed containment plan to rectify shortcomings.
