Special forces are skilled at spending days cut off from the rest of the world in an attempt to stay ahead of the enemy. Anyone travelling by foot or vehicle will leave tell-tale markers which they can follow:
1 and 2: Troops loaded with gear may leave scratches on bark or broken branches as they move through trees or shrubs.
3: Leaves rot on the underside first. Leaves with blackened tops have been flicked over, possibly by a soldiers’ boots. Similarly stones may be flickedout of their depressions.
4,5 and 6: Footprints provide information on numbers and equipment being carried. If many twigs or branches are broken or grasses disturbed over a wide area, it indicates a large troop presence.
