Afghanistan has produced the biggest number of refugees in the world. The number of new refugees leaving the country has been a fraction of that originally expected by UNHCR, although an estimated 135,000 have fled to Pakistan, most crossing the border unofficially and blending with the local population.
About 3,000 are in the Killi Faizo camp and a further 2,500 in the Roghani camp. Hundreds have been returning on a daily basis from Iran over the Dogharoun crossing to see for themselves what is happening in their home country.
