Uruzgan: Controlled by Pashtun tribes

The Taleban lost control of Uruzgan, the province that borders Kandahar, in late November after days of fighting.

Tribal leader Hamid Karzai - who now heads the interim administration - took control of Tarin Kowt, the provincial capital.

The mountainous province is the birthplace of Mullah Omar and many of the top Taleban commanders, and its loss was considered a major blow for the Taleban.
