After withstanding 10 days of siege, Taleban forces left their last northern stronghold of Kunduz on Sunday 25 November, abandoning the city to Northern Alliance forces.
Many thousands of Taleban fighters had already surrendered or defected. Civilians in the city say that for three nights before the city fell a large number of flights came and went from the airport, adding credence to reports that Pakistan had decided to fly out its citizens who had been fighting with the Taleban.
The US which controls the airspace denied that any flights have left the area.
