Tajik:
Mostly Persian-speaking Sunni Muslims who account for about 25% of the population. Tajiks have always formed an important part of the Afghan administrative elite. Tajiks, who form the leading component of the Northern Alliance forces built up by the late Ahmed Shah Masood, have battled the Hazara of the Hizb-i-Wahadat at various times in the mid-1990s.
