Aid routes into Afghanistan
As fighting continues on the ground, the aid agencies have been trying to move supplies overland into Afghanistan from neighbouring countries and via air drops. Aid is also being shipped into northern Afghanistan by river from Uzbekistan. The convoys face a treacherous journey over difficult terrain and dangers from armed militias - four journalists were killed on the Kabul route - and supplies in Mazar-e-Sharif and Jalalabad have been looted.
