Thousands of al-Qaeda fighters have fled from their Tora Bora base to the snowy peaks of the White Mountains. The United States has admitted it has no clear idea whether Osama Bin Laden is among those fleeing.

But if he is in the White Mountains, the US-led forces have men watching his escape routes.
