|Mohammed Fahim (Tajik)
Who he is: General Mohammed Fahim is defence minister in the interim administration. He is part of the Northern Alliance's "triumvirate" of young reformers who took over after commander Ahmad Shah Masood was killed in September.
General Fahim has been going from strength to strength, and is now in charge of the central forces in Kabul.
What he believes: General Fahim is a member of Jamiat-e-Islami, the largest political party in the alliance, led by Burhanuddin Rabbani. He is considered to be the lowest profile member of the Northern Alliance's figures in the interim cabinet.
