The crew at the workstations in this area are called Special Systems Operators. They include linguists who listen to and record radio transmissions.

As on the rest of the aircraft, the crew has to work in cramped, claustrophobic conditions, with hard seats. The main body of the plane only has about two windows, so the area inside is a bit like a tunnel.
