Palestinian refugees
The expulsion of almost one million Palestinians from their homelands began with the creation of Israel in 1948, making it the largest and most enduring refugee problem today. A further 350,000 refugees - including these women - fled the 1967 war. There are now some 3.6m Palestinian refugees in the region.
