Poverty-stricken Bangladesh was host to an influx of 250,000 Rohingya refugees from Burma in early 1991. The Muslim Rohingyas were denied citizenship and socially excluded by the Burmese authorities. But Bangladesh also did not want them, and hundreds were forcibly repatriated.
