Cruise missile technology is still being refined and the US wants a more sophisticated missile in operation by 2003.

According to the plans, the new cruise missile would be able to circle a target and send live images back to base.

If the battle commanders conclude that the target has already been destroyed, they would be able to redirect the missile to a pre-programmed alternative or upload new maps so that it can be diverted to a new target.
