Commonwealth Beacons

Wellington, N. Zealand

Australasia

The smallest state in the world, the Pacific island of Nauru, will be holding street parties, complete with floats and a beacon lighting ceremony.

Several beacons are planned in New Zealand. The capital, Wellington, will be the setting for a firework display. Among the many thousands expected to watch the display will be about 300 guests who have special connections to the UK.

In Australia a beacon is being lit in the capital, Canberra, and Prime Minister John Howard may attend.

Events are also planned in Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Seychelles, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu.
