The wedding of Charles and Diana
The Queen speaks to the nation after Diana's death
The BBC reports on Diana's funeral
Diana
The Queen and Diana Spencer pose for photographs as Diana's engagement to Prince Charles was given approval in 1981.

The royal wedding later that year gripped the public's imagination and was watched by more than a billion people worldwide.

Unfortunately the match was far from perfect. The couple's marriage was dissolved in August 1996. Little over a year later, the Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris.

The massive public outpouring of grief that followed brought an unusually personal televised address from the Queen as she attempted to help the nation deal with its sorrow.
