UK Detention Services is a consortium made up of the Corrections Corporation of America (the largest private prisons operator in the United States) and two British construction firms, Mowlem and McAlpine. Prison Privatisation Report International says the company has recognised the Prison Services Union, which is regarded as more moderate than the Prison Officers’ Association. It quotes the PSU as saying that the prison population is expected to increase to 1,100, and there is concern that staff do not get proper meal breaks.
