OriginsThe foot-and-mouth outbreak "begins" at Burnside farm, Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland, in early February. The Ministry of Agriculture believes it started among the farm’s pig herd. The virus is carried to Prestwick Hall farm, just four miles away, where it infects a cattle herd. Experts think it was probably carried on the wind. |
