In March, a Progress supply spacecraft narrowly missed colliding with Mir. The platform came within metres of disaster. It was a foretaste of things to come.
Mir resident Sergei Krikalev came home to a different country after his stay on Mir. He was launched from the USSR but returned to Russia, which was established whilst he was in orbit. |
Britain’s only cosmonaut, Helen Sharman, spent a week on Mir in this year. She obtained her place as winner of a national competition in Britain that attracted 13,000 applicants.
She travelled to Mir with Soviet cosmonauts Anatole Artsebarsky and Sergei Krikalev. | |
