TWIN JETSupersonic exhaust
The Twin Jet Nebula, or M2-9, is a striking example of a "butterfly" nebula. Each side of it appears like an exhaust from a jet engine. Indeed, the gas is shooting out at over 200 miles per second - a super-supersonic jet exhaust.
The stellar outburst that formed the lobes is thought to have occurred just 1,200 years ago.
