Blowing up a star
A huge, billowing pair of gas and dust clouds were captured in this image of the doomed, supermassive star Eta Carinae.
It is one of the highest resolution images of an extended object ever produced by Hubble. Dust lanes, tiny condensations and strange radial streaks all appear with unprecedented clarity.
