The parliament is the only directly elected body in the European Union. It is split between Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg. Parliamentary committees spend two weeks a month meeting in Brussels and consulting the commission and the Council of Ministers. Together with the Council of Ministers, the parliament decides on legislation and the EU's budget. It also has the power to sack the commission.
