3. Command and control centre
The Kursk was a flagship vessel, with modern and sophisticated command, control and communications facilities. But these were apparently wiped out in the accident which befell the submarine during military exercises. Russian sources have reported that the crew had to resort to knocking on the hull in order to communicate with the outside world. Military analysts have been puzzled by the apparent failure of back-up communications such as radios or emergency buoys. |
