Womad
Rivermead, Reading
26-28 July

Womad - devoted to sounds from around the world - celebrated 20 years in the UK this summer, with over 60 artists from 30 countries performing.

Originally inspired by Peter Gabriel, Womad's relaxing, family-friendly atmosphere featured workshops from around the world and a huge craft market - and came on the hottest weekend of 2002.

The Bhundu Boys, Anouska Shankar and Kanda Bongo Man were among the wide range of stars from around the world.

But among the colour of the global stars, a guest appearance from Echo and The Bunnymen, who played the first festival in 1982, felt muted.
