Temple Newsam Park
23-25 August

Guns 'N' Roses were the surprise headliners for this year's Leeds festival - they shared top bill on the first night with the Prodigy.

But their appearance was overshadowed by a riot at the close of the event, which almost did not go ahead at all after local councillors originally blocked the organisers' licence application.

The bill was largely the same as Reading's - The Strokes, Pulp, Foo Fighters, Muse and Ash were the other bands leading the bill.

But while its southern counterpart was hailed as a success, the Leeds festival faces a fight if it is to stay at its Temple Newsam home.
