Jarvis Cocker
Pulp's Jarvis Cocker (pictured) called it Sheffield: Sex City in one of his songs, and now the south Yorkshire city celebrates its pop heritage with a museum dedicated to music.
Alongside Pulp, the city is also home to rock legends Def Leppard, as well as Joe Cocker - no relation to Jarvis.
Martin Fry's band ABC came from here, as did 1980s pop heroes The Human League. Like Liverpool, Sheffield now also has one of the UK's most influential nightclubs in the shape of Gatecrasher.
