Scotland ![]() Glasgow and Edinburgh have long dominated the Scottish music scene.
Stadium rockers Simple Minds and recently-split pop heroes Wet Wet Wet both come from Glasgow, as do Texas. A thriving alternative scene spawned Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream (Bobby Gillespie pictured), Belle and Sebastian and Mogwai. Creation Records boss Alan McGee signed Oasis after a gig here. Travis began at Glasgow University. As well as the Bay City Rollers, Edinburgh also produced singer Shirley Manson, who hit fame when she joined US band Garbage. Young rock hopes Idlewild met at Edinburgh University, while reggae star Finley Quaye also comes from the Scottish capital. |
