Punk stars The Undertones came from Londonderry - and recorded John Peel's favourite song, Teenage Kicks. Northern Ireland's other top musical exports include Ash (pictured). The Downpatrick band appeared on stage with U2, David Trimble and John Hume to promote the Good Friday peace agreement in 1998.
Belfast rock act Therapy? were popular during the early 1990s while Neil Hannon, from Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, is behind The Divine Comedy. Belfast club DJ David Holmes has also achieved worldwide fame.
Local pundits hope acts such as Hedrock Valley Beats, Snow Patrol and the Desert Hearts will be the province's new stars in the years ahead.
