Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa is one of Asia's largest and most successful businesses. The sale of Orange boosted its bank balance, helping it to raise some of the money it needs to build 3G networks in Italy, Australia, Sweden and the UK, having decided licences in Germany were too expensive.
