Flight 93, a Boeing 757, took off from Newark, New Jersey, at 08:42 bound for San Francisco. It crashed into the rural Somerset county in Pennsylvania.

9/11 Commission: How the hijacks unfolded

Hijackers: It is believed the hijackers were armed with knives and a box they claimed was a bomb. Their intended target was probably Washington DC. The FBI named the suspected hijackers as Ahmed Alhaznawi, Ahmed Alnami, Ziad Jarrahi and Saeed Alghamdi.

On board: At least 10 passengers and two crew members made mobile phone calls to relatives and the emergency services. One of those was sales manager Jeremy Glick who told his wife that he and some others had taken a secret vote and had decided to tackle the hijackers. Another passenger, Thomas Burnett told his wife: "I know we're all going to die... There's three of us who are going to do something about it."
