Washington Republican Slade Gorton joined Democrat Joe Lieberman in a Senate proposal to bring the impeachment trial to a speedy end.
Once the state attorney general for Washington, Senator Gorton is on the Appropriations and Budget committees and is part of Trent Lott's leadership circle.
He voted against the count of perjury. He voted to convict on the obstruction of justice charge.
