Jonathan King

After 1989's fiasco, pop performer and pundit Jonathan King was drafted in to organise another new-look Brits. Insisting on total control, his 1990 show even had Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher crooning her favourite song on stage - How Much Is That Doggy In The Window?

King tried to make the Brits a showcase for the best of British talent, and organised concerts featuring new acts to suport the 1991 show. But the BPI wanted more big names - and King quit "in disgust" the following year. He has since called the Brits "a dreary and predictable shop window for the big labels", and "a deeply dull chunk of self-indulgent TV".
