Education: School League Tables
The figures relate to all local authority-maintained and grant-maintained primary and middle schools with pupils eligible for assessment at the time of the tests administered on 11-15 May 1998. The Department for Education - which provides the figures - excludes schools which closed prior to 1 January 1999, those which opened during the 1997/98 school year, special schools, pupil referral units, hospital schools and independent schools. Three columns of figures The columns show the results in English (Eng.) mathematics (Mat.) and science (Sci.) The figures are the percentage of eligible pupils who achieved Level 4 or above - the standard expected for their age. The results are rounded to whole numbers except in the case of local education authority and national averages, which are given to one decimal place. We have ranked schools on the total of their results in all three tests. Where more than one school has the same score, they are then listed alphabetically. The table showing the relative performance of local education authorities is based on the total of the average scores of their schools in the three tests. Special symbols:
note: & means the school had 10 or fewer eligible pupils. The education department does not supply the results for these small schools. They are listed alphabetically. Type of school:
