In November 1995, Diana gave an unprecedented interview with the BBC's Panorama programme. Diana candidly described her fight with bulimia, the breakdown of her marriage to Prince Charles, her tense relationship with the Royal Family and her wish to become a queen "in peoples' hearts". In what would later seem prophetic statements, she also called the media's invasions into her private life "abusive".
The interview, watched by millions around the world, won the Princess widespread public support. Diana was viewed as more honest and in touch than other members of the Royal Family. |
