Hello and Welcome to BBC Xtra English!
Today Vicky and Louay talk about plastic bags.
Plastic bags can be found in most shops and supermarkets.
Usually, supermarkets would give them for free when you buy something from them.
Recently a number of places have begun charging their customers for plastic bags or only giving them out if customers ask for them.
This is because plastic bags are not good for the environment.
They are made from crude oil, which is a finite resource.
Plastic bags also harm marine life and if they end up in the sea, they can kill fish and other animals.
But the main point is that they can take up to 1000 years to degrade.
These reasons are behind the Welsh Environment Minister's attempt to introduce a tax on all plastic bags.
She told the BBC that she is confident that people will change their habits and use less plastic bags.
This idea is not a new one as it has been used successfully in Ireland where a tax has reduced plastic bag usage by 90%.
This is a step in the right direction but the United Nations want a global ban on plastic bags to stop some of the damage they do to the environment.
Would you agree with a global ban on plastic bags and why? Write to us in English!
