Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English!

Today Cath and Inas look at the changing face of society in Britain.

New research commissioned by the BBC has found that people are living increasingly isolated lives.

It said that many neighborhoods are becoming very segregated and divided.

This segregation is not simply based on race or ethnicity but also on other things too.

For example there are "young and old neighborhoods" and neighborhoods divided by wealth.

This is called economic polarisation.

The young and old neighborhoods also show us signs of a generational gap where people from the same age group live in the same areas.

The research also says that there is a lot of political disengagement - people don't care about voting or politics anymore.

But there is some good news; the research says that racial and ethnic segregation is less now than it was before.

What do you think? Is the society you live in segregated? Write to us in English!

Nadine, Cairo, Egypt
I totally agree that there's a clear gap in between people these days..i think that the new technology and the fast speed life style are two crucial reasons.

Ahmad Saleh, Egypt
I live in a social society although the time is so short, we exchange the gifts and visits because the customs and traditions seal us to do that.

Mustafa Ibrahim, Baghdad, Iraq
About me; I live in baghdad with social peoples there is no economic polarisation but after the war we have seen segregation on ethnicity and this was road taking iraq to the civil war.
