It's an
extravagant,
big-budget,
blockbuster film but can a movie help Australia's ailing tourist industry?
BBC Xtra English investigates with Cath and Somaya.
There's certainly a big buzz around the film, as it is designed to revive what became known as the 'Crocodile Dundee Effect'.
The 1986 comedy film Crocodile Dundee, was responsible for a massive increase in tourist numbers to Australia.
'Australia: The Movie' is one way that could provide a 'feature length shot in the arm' to the country's tourist businesses according to BBC correspondent Nick Bryant.
Much of Australia's tourist industry depends on people travelling from Europe or America to visit.
The country's tourism downturn has been made worse by people questioning the environmental correctness of such a long-haul destination.
However with some people hailing the film as the Antipodean answer to 'Gone With The Wind', the American film that attracted millions of viewers, there may be some hope in making Australia attractive to travellers again.
There is a large cast of the countrys' superstars, including Nicole Kidman, so it's a true crowd pleaser, and benefits from a multi-million dollar global advertising campaign.
Would you like to benefit from the recuperative powers of a trip to Australia?
