Welcome to
BBC Xtra English.
Today John and Liliane talk about difference between American and British English.
Some people might notice a difference between American and British English.
Whilst there are some grammatical differences, generally it is quite easy for people used to one kind of English to understand people used to the other kind.
The language barrier between the two is not that big because a lot of people now mix words from both American and British English.
But there are noticeable differences in their vocabulary.
For example, British English speakers say rubbish whilst American English speakers say garbage.
Also, there are differences in informal or slang words.
British English might say naff to mean something is not cool.
These conversational differences are interesting and our report introduces some more examples of these differences.
